The Columbia Sportswear Company partnered with LIT Workshop to make their Skylab Architecture designed Sorel premium retail program come to life. Many of the designs take inspiration from features found in the products themselves.
The initial idea for the floor kits was to form wooden barrels out of white oak. Ultimately material and process limitations gave way to the innovative solution of building the tubs in fiberglass and creating the wood grain pattern through the process of hydro printing. The fiberglass process lends itself to achieving the compound complex curves found throughout the program. It also creates lightweight, durable long lasting elements that stand the test of time in tough retail environments. The global rollout was met with much success at all Columbia branded stores and premium retail locations around the world.
